BUTT'S PULL FERRY
We also operate the "Oldest Pull Ferry" in the coutry!
Butt's Ferry provides a daily service (10am - 5pm Easter till Oct) and weekends (river conditions permitting) throughout the year. The pull ferry has been operating on the Quay since at least 1641!

Butt's Ferry has changed alot since then (now built with aluminum enabling a 25 passenger capacity) but the principles of its propulsion remains as it were 370 years ago. A simple rope/wire stetching the width of the river with the ferryman pulling the boat across using nothing but a strong pair of arms and an iron grip. See here for further history.
